Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. Hi, guys! How are you all? I hope everyone’s having a nice weekend. I was in London yesterday (and had a pretty eventful week, with a trip to the Harper Collins offices for a crime blogger party earlier), so I decided to have a lazy day today. I’m also going to Portugal for a short visit in less than 2 weeks, so I need to start planning what exactly I want to see while I’m there.
In other news, I have TONS of books to show you this morning! It’s going to be a pretty big haul since I haven’t posted for a few weeks, so apologies for the amount of pictures below. Ready? Here we go.
After reading Murder Most Unladylike last month, I completely fell in love with this series and Robin’s writing. (Also, just look at those covers!) So, a few weeks later I decided to treat myself to the second and the third book in the series, both of which I’m hoping to read in the next couple of weeks. And if you haven’t read Murder Most Unladylike yet, I really can’t recommend it highly enough!
I also popped into a few charity shops during a recent trip to London, and picked up two slightly different, but equally intriguing books. I’ve heard some amazing things about The Year of the Rat so far and although I’m still not sure it’s something I would normally pick up, I’m really looking forward to seeing what all the hype was about.
I also found Dennis Lehane’s Mystic River and, after reading a blurb, decided to give it a go. Judging by the Goodreads reviews those people who saw the film preferred it to the book, but luckily I haven’t seen the film yet so I have nothing to compare it to. We’ll see how it goes!
Those of you who participated in Dewey’s 24-hour read-a-thon earlier this month will remember this pile, because I already talked about it in my initial sign-up post. Before the read-a-thon kicked off, I went to the library to look for some relatively short books that would keep me busy for those 24 hours, this is how I found a Simpsons comic and an Agatha Christie novel I haven’t read yet. I also found Am I Normal Yet?, which I’ve heard amazing things about, but I have yet to pick that one up. And, my friend Veronica from Mostly Reviews lent me two of her manga collections, Doubt 1 and 2 – both of which I loved and will review pretty soon.
… and she also gave me the author’s other series to try. Apparently, these are not as good as the Doubt books, but I’m really looking forward to reading them too. Thanks again, V! Are you guys still with me? Don’t worry, only 3 more books to go.
And last but not least, I also received three review books. Quirk Books were lovely enough to send me Hollow City and Library of Souls, both of which I’ve been dying to read after Miss Peregrine. It’s been a while since I read that one, though, so I might have to re-read it before I start book #2, just to refresh my memory.
I also got Luana Lewis’s latest, Forget Me Not, which I’m super excited about. I absolutely loved her debut, Don’t Stand So Close at the beginning of last year, and have been anxiously awaiting her next book ever since. Many thanks to Transworld Books for the review copy!
Which books did you get this week? Have you read any of these?
