Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week. Hello everyone! How are you? 🙂 How has your weekend been so far? I had a lazy day yesterday (although I did manage to go to the library and book shopping, so it wasn’t that lazy) but I’m dedicating today to blogging and catching up on all my reviews*. I have at least 5 reviews to write and I want to schedule some other posts for the next couple of weeks as well. I’ll be away at the beginning of March, visiting my family, so it’d be nice to have something scheduled for that week.
* If you see me lurking on Twitter, feel free to shout at me!
I had an amazing week book-wise. All the books I was waiting for arrived last week, so I wasn’t expecting anything else to turn up… but somehow I ended up with six new books. Oops!
This time last week I started Boys Don’t Knit by T.S. Easton and fell in love with Ben’s story within a few pages. I would’ve read it in one sitting if I didn’t have other things to do – it’s HILARIOUS! (My full review will be posted soon) So I popped into our local library yesterday and borrowed the sequel, An English Boy in New York, which I’m starting today. Can’t wait!
Unspeakable is a giveaway win from Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl, and another book I’ve heard amazing things about. Thank you, Jana and Atom!
Gone Girl has been on my wishlist for ages but I never got around to picking it up or getting a copy until now. I spotted it in a charity shop on my way home yesterday and couldn’t resist snatching it up! (And it was only £1 – such a bargain!)
I also received a mystery package from My Independent Bookshop, who ran a special Twitter giveaway just before Valentine’s day. To celebrate V day, the MIB team decided to pair people up with a mystery ‘book date’. Everyone who tweeted them with their favourite author got a mystery book in the post – something MIB thought they’d enjoy based on the authors they chose.
It was a brilliant idea and, based on my favourite author of Agatha Christie (although it was very hard to pick just one), they paired me up with Nicholas Blake. I haven’t heard of A Question of Proof before but if it’s anything like Christie’s novels, I’m pretty sure I’m going to love it. Thanks, guys! 🙂
Also, I LOVE the bookmark and the postcard!
Hold the Dark should have been in last week’s post, actually – it was part of our goody bag (accompanied by a bottle of vodka!) at the Hold the Dark book launch, which I briefly mentioned last week. I’ll write a separate post about it and show you some pictures soon, so watch this space!
The Third Woman arrived yesterday and was another book I wasn’t expecting. I haven’t read anything by Freedland so I don’t know what to expect, but it sounds like a chilling read! It’s not out until July but I’ll keep you posted. 😉
Thank you to Frances, No Exit Press, Killer Reads and Harper Collins for the books!
Have you read any of these books? What books did you get this week?
