Hey guys! Those of you who stopped by the blog in the past couple of weeks may have noticed that I’ve been unusually quiet lately. I haven’t really been posting on social media (except for Instagram) and I haven’t really blogged in nearly two months now. And while this was partly due to the combination of a burnout and life being particularly hectic lately, I also needed to re-evaluate a few things in my life and in the way I run this blog.
But, even though I haven’t been posting much lately, I’ve been busy brainstorming and laying the foundations of my new “project” behind the scenes – something which I hinted at on Twitter, but never actually revealed what it meant in terms of the blog’s future.
So what the heck is going on, you ask?
Saying Goodbye to Books, Biscuits and Tea
After much deliberation, I decided to say goodbye to Books, Biscuits and Tea and start afresh. Don’t panic, though – I’m not leaving for good, and I’m not deleting the blog. Just hear me out.
I’ve been running this blog for almost five years and all I can say is, it’s been one heck of a ride. When I first signed up and started my blog, I’d never, ever thought I’d be where I am today. Not in a million years. Not once did I think I’d be able to keep going for such a long time – yet here I am, half a decade later, and still blogging.
It’s been a wonderful journey (admittedly, with a few bumps here and there), and I’ll always be grateful for the book blogging community and all the friends I made throughout the years – I love you guys. But five years is a long time, and it’s time to turn the page to a new chapter.
A New Name
So, a few days ago, I decided to take the plunge and change the name of my blog. Books, Biscuits and Tea is now A Backpack Full of Adventures!
If you’re wondering why on earth I changed my blog’s name after five very long years (yes, I’m probably insane), here’s my reasoning.
For the past year or so, I’ve been unmotivated and burned out. Although reading was (and still is) a massive part of my life, I just didn’t feel like writing reviews two, maybe three times a week. And when blogging is starting to feel more like a chore than a hobby, you know it’s time to re-evaluate things and have a good look at the core of the problem.
Which, for me, turned out the be this niche and the fact that it’s just… too limited. There’s only so much one can say about books and, after five years, I’m sure I’m not the only one to feel like I’ve pretty much said it all. There are so many other things I’d love to share with you guys, so many tips and ideas, but a book review blog isn’t necessary the best outlet for these topics.
Not to mention the fact that half a decade is a long time, and it’s natural for your interests to change over time. And while I still love reading and talking about books, I want to be able to talk about other things I’m just as passionate about – such as travelling or blogging.
What is A Backpack Full of Adventures About?
So what does this change mean in terms of my blog content – and you guys?
Well, if you’re here for the book reviews (or occasional readathons and other bookish topics), fret not – they will still be part of the blog. As I said, reading is still an important part of my life, and I’ll still be reviewing books from time to time – but probably not every week.
In addition to bookish posts, you can also expect travel tips and ideas, lots of photos from my adventures (both within and outside the UK), and blogging tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your sites.
The Meaning Behind the New Name
But why “A Backpack Full of Adventures“?
To be honest, I’ve never really liked my old blog name. Since I never really thought I’d manage to stick to blogging for such a long time (and was too impatient to wait for inspiration to strike at the time), I just went with the first name that popped into my head and sounded relatively good. Erm… well, let’s just say I wish I’d thought about it more.
I picked A Backpack Full of Adventures for one simple reason: because it’s just so “me”. For the past couple of years, I’ve been using my weekends and my annual leave to explore what the UK (and the rest of the world) has to offer, and immerse myself in new cultures – and, needless to say, I loved every second of it. All I need is my backpack and my camera, and I’m good to go – hence the name!
How to Follow the Blog
Obviously, one of the biggest changes on the site is the URL itself – from now on, you can find me at www.backpackfullofadventures.com.
If you’ve been following the blog via email, you don’t have to worry about anything – nothing will change. However, if you’re following me on social media, my usernames have changed.
